Do you know the US states and capitals? I learned them all at some point, though I admit I am probably a bit rusty on a few.
We have just started working on memorizing the states and capitals using the famous Animaniacs crazy fast song.
It’s definitely catchy and annoying to adults, but it’s crazy enough for the kids to think it totally rocks. It goes SO fast, though and is hard to keep up with the timing… not to mention the pitch is so very high at points!
I decided to create a printable with the song lyrics to give to my students to help us learn the song… and when we’ve learned the song, we’ll have learned which capital goes with which state in the process.
They have done so well learning with songs with the Presidents and the Preamble, so I knew that tackling the States & Capitals would be so much easier with a song. They will learn these again in 5th grade and will be tested on them, so presenting it to them now will help prepare them for next year.
Here’s the FREE PRINTABLE for you in Google Docs! As far as I can tell, it looks like you can download Google Drive and it installs on your computer just like Dropbox giving you an extra 5GB of storage.
Happy Singing!
Thank you so much for sharing. Our 4th graders are doing posters in ELA on the various states now, and some don’t even recognize state names! What a great way to get them started early!
That’s kind of what I was thinking… They’ve done so well with the other songs we’ve done, I figured that singing the song with get those facts in their heads w/o them even knowing it, ha!
