Cupcake Toppers. They have the amazing, under-appreciated ability to take an ordinary looking dessert to the next level.
There are a million and one ways to fit your toppers to your theme and with a cricut or other cutting machine you can cut whatever shape you want, or do customized circle toppers and punch out with a rad circle cutter.
I’m not cool enough to have a circle cutter, so I loved this BEYOND EASY method of Cute Flag Toppers from The Pleated Poppy.
*Side Note… Lindsey from TPP is one of those incredibly talented crafters and sewers it’s hard not to be envious of! I seriously LOVE all her cute creations. She is amazing. It’s easy to look at her awesomeness and realize how much you fall short. That’s why I especially loved her post about being a bake sale faker! She openly admitted she wasn’t experienced at baking. She even admitted to burning her stadium bars dessert {which she still served, btw…sans the burnt layer!}. Love that. The blogosphere has enough of the perfect moms so it’s a breath of fresh air to hear someone be real, already.*
This was the second time I did these, and this time I had to share with you all THE SUPAH SIMPLE HOW TO!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Patterned Paper
- Glue Stick/Scissors
- Toothpicks
Step 1) Cut out small rectangle strips of patterened paper.
The great thing about this project is that you can use up all those kajillion bits of scrap paper you’ve been unable to toss, and there is no set size. Just whatever you feel like. :)
Step 2) Fold each strip in half and cut out your triangle shape with it still folded.
Step 3) Then apply the glue stick and place your toothpick in the center.
Step 4) Squeeze the sides of the triangle together around your toothpick and line up your edges. If you need to, you can always trim your edges up with the scissors if they aren’t even.
These are just SO EASY and can really add some MARVELOUS “ooh-la-la” to your next batch of otherwise boring brownies or cupcakes!!
What about you? Do you like adding that little bit of extra touch to give your special occasion dessert some pizzazz? :)
I love it when I find something easy that looks really hard. It means lots of ooh’s and ahh’s, and we all know I love those. :)
