Aren’t lesson plans like the funnest part of teaching?? Oh… uh, no?
One crazy thing about teaching the same grade and subjects multiple years is the fact that you end up hand writing much of the SAME THINGS year after year!
What a waste!
I’ve typed my lesson plans for two years, though, OF COURSE, I ended up not teaching the same things both years. :) I went from 5th grade to Computers, so not much I could reuse there.
You can just open up your plans from the last year {save them by lesson or date so you can keep track} as well as your current plan and just copy/paste the lesson plan you’re going to reuse.
Typing your plans will also help you with those subjects that follow a weekly pattern where you do something the same or similar each day of the week. For instance, I usually do the same routine each week for Spelling. Each day of the week is a specific activity, and when I’m handwriting them, I end up writing that same routine every week… all year long! But when I’m typing, I just type it once and then I can copy/paste!
Another perk of typing your plans, is that you can fit so much MORE into that little box legibly! This is especially nice when you have a sub trying to read your smooshed chicken scratch! :)
I found a basic lesson plan template and blinged it out customizing it to make it beautiful. Even the mundane can be more enjoyed if it is beautiful, right? This was one of the first things I did when I found out back in April I would be teaching this fall!
I am giving you a blank copy ready to be customized by you! Most of it is ready to be edited and customized. You can just click and drag the specials images around based on your weekly schedule. (Edit: I have removed this due to the request by the author of the template I customized. See the original template link above.)
Just a tip though…Working with tables in Word can be excruciatingly aggravating at times. They are so temperamental and go wacky at the drop of a hat, it seems! I changed all my fonts to basic ones in the hopes that when you download it on your computer it will still look like mine. If you make a change and everything goes bonkers just remember the magic button… ctrl + z {or command + z on mac} to undo whatever you did!
I found a turquoise binder at Target with the fancy ovalish rings that make it easy to open and close… those are a must for a binder like this that I will constantly be in and out of. I got the 1.5 inch binder and it was less than 4 bucks!
Of course, I had to make a cute binder cover too! This one coordinates with my master binder cover.
I have a blank one for you. Just open in ribbet or picmonkey and add your name or other info if you wish. :)
I have about a week and a half before I’m back to school, and I’ll be utilizing these shortly after!
How about you? Do you hand write your plans or have you mastered the nifty copy/paste technique?
Any tips for lesson plan typing?
Happy Lesson Planning!

Wow, I totally wish you were my teacher ;)
Our school has an electronic lesson plan template that we’re suppose to fill out and submit electronically each Monday. Oddly, as tech savvy as I (think) I am, I still prefer to hand-write them out first. My thinking process is so much better with pen to paper in comparison to typing it all out. Plus, like you said, tables in Word tend to frustrate me, and that’s what our template is in. But I also teach high school, so the length and amount of lesson planning is a little different than elementary school. :)
Thanks so much for the printable lesson plan template. I have been WANTING to try planning on the computer and going to give it a shot this year. It has to be easier right?!? Can’t wait to use your cute designed lesson planner.
Thanks again,
Laura
I love this, even though I teach in 7th, the forgotten grade level for most materials. :) We have a school template we have to use, but I like thinking it through in my own terms before submitting it officially.
Thanks for sharing this freebie! Super cute!

So this is definitely going to make my life so much easier

Help I am trying to find the link to your colorful lesson plan format but the only link I found doesn’t work. I found a more basic one on TPT but it is not like the picture.
Hi Suzanne… I double checked the link and it worked for me… it’s the link right above the second picture of it, titled ” a blank one ready to be customized by you.” It does look wonky when it opens in the new browser, but when you click “direct download” on that page, it will open up right in your Word.
LMK if you’re still having problems… you can try this link to my Teacher’s Notebook Shop… http://www.teachersnotebook.com/product/LiveLaughRenee/editable-lesson-plan-template
is there a trick to downloading the lesson plan template? It shows up all crazy, but when I click “download” I can’t see the “direct download” option. It’s hidden behind the template :-/
I’ve updated the post with a link to download from my shop in Teacher’s Notebook. Hopefully that will be easier!

Hello There !
I am a 3rd Grade teacher who just loves this blank lesson plan template ! It’s my 13th year teaching and it was time for easier planning – thanks to your template! Any chance you can make clip art for Science and Computers? Would be greatly appreciated !
We’re starting homeschool this year and, as a former classroom teacher, I needed something fun and easy to do lesson planning with. Excited that there’s room for Bible time on this!!!! Thank you!!!
Could you please update the lesson plan covers to say 2013-2014? Thanks!

Hi! I love your lesson plan template and really appreciate that you offered it to everyone for free. When I download it, it only downloads into one page, with the second page smack down on the first one. Do you have any suggestions? Or, would you mind emailing me a link so that I can get them both separately.
Thank you again!!
Kathy
Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful resource! I have been using this template for my Pre-K class since school started. It is simple to customize, and typing out the lessons is so convenient compared to writing by hand. I make copies of each week’s plan to place in my theme binders as well, so next year I can easily recall what I did, regardless of the order in which I teach the themes. Best of all, it’s totally cute, which makes lesson planning so much more fun!

“Most of it is ready to be edited and customized.”
That’s because I did all of the work creating the table and templates in the first place. While I appreciate you link to MY ORIGINAL WORK at all, nowhere do you mention my name or shop name, or give any thanks or gratitude whatsoever. NOTHING is mentioned in your Teacher’s Notebook shop about how you are using my work for your shop.
DMCA violation paperwork has been filed.
I’m sorry for not expressing more gratitude and thanks. I should have done all the things you mention above. I am extremely grateful for you and many others teachers who have created amazing things to be shared with other teachers.
I wanted to keep the sharing going by sharing the edits I had made to yours.
I have removed it from TPT and TN.
I love your lesson plan template, but I cannot download it and it is no longer on your TeachersNotebook page. Could you please email me the template?
I clicked on the link and it says the page has been moved or deleted! Do you still have this template? I really like it!
This is an item from my store that I have been giving away for free for a few years now. You can access this lesson plan template and a few other formats in my TPT storefront (hopefully my name links to the storefront above).
Hi, I also would like to download your lesson plan template, but it i can not find it via the link you posted. May you please make it available once more?
