We’ve been trucking it along with our homeschooling and now have 12 weeks under our belts! I am loving our Bible curriculum and all the good ideas it gives me. One we did recently was making an ark of the covenant out of a tissue box.
We had just finished studying the 10 Commandments and learned about them being kept in the ark of the covenant. She cut out a small scroll with the commandments on them, rolled them up and stuck them inside.
I also had her write her own 10 Commandments one day for her journal entry. 10 Rules for everyone in our family. She had a bit of trouble getting started, but I think she got the hang of it!
Haylee’s Ten Commandments…
1. Every girl should have a sister. {Aw! Poor girl!}
2. I get to watch ICarly whenever I want.
3. When Wade is not good I can spank him. {ha ha}
4. Babys can never spit up. {I hear ya!}
5. I don’t have to do schoolwork thats not fun.
6. Everything in the store costs $1.
7.Babys poop can never stink.
8. The house would always be clean. {She said this was so wouldn’t have to clean up anything! :) }
9. While I am eating and watching TV I don’t have to get up and do something.
10. Whenever we watch TV, I get to pick which show we are going to watch.
We finally made it to the library too. It was nice to get out, and we found some fun Thanksgiving books to read.
Some we picked out were…
Davis did really well too which was nice! After we all got loaded in the van, I turned around to see both Haylee and Wade engrossed in their new books. So cute! As much as I grew up loving to read, it is something special to see your little ones loving books too. :)
Last week, we made a fun countdown to Thanksgiving craft. It was so easy and can help get some of the focus off the early Christmas craziness and back on what we’re thankful for.
There’s a few ways to do it, but we decided to make a feather for the number of days left until Turkey Day. Then we divided up those feathers among the family members, and we each wrote some things we were thankful for. Each day we’ll pull off a feather and read what that person wrote. We kept some a secret from each other, so part of the fun is pulling off a random feather and getting to see whose it was and what they were thankful for!
Haylee got to pick the first feather off and got Wade’s!
His definitely will be the most entertaining, I’m sure. I had him sitting at the table, and I asked him what he was thankful to God for. He looked straight ahead on the table and pointed to the glue stick sitting there. On the second try he pointed to Haylee’s workbox. So I changed it to “What do you like?” and got some better answers. :)
Here was the feather she picked…
Looking forward to more Thanksgiving fun!
P.S. In case you happen to notice the drastic hair change in these pictures, yes, Haylee’s hair has been chopped!
She had been wanting to get it cut and keeping it free of tangles was becoming an issue. Some of you know that I happen to have a slightly impulsive tendency when it comes to hair cuts. {Who me?} Soooo, last Saturday, I asked her if she wanted me to cut it, and she said yes! It didn’t go as well as she {or I} hoped, but we both decided it’s okay. It’s will grow. :) I do think it looks cute. I just didn’t cut it the straightest. To start with, I put it in a pony and chopped that off for locks of love {Anybody know what I’m supposed to do with it now?} so that gave me an uneven surface to start with, ugh.
Combined with her new glasses, It definitely makes her look more grown up!
Here’s three little things I’m thankful for… :)
What a cute ark of the covenant project! ;)

Summer, that idea was from the curriculum. Thankfully, it has lots of hands on activities in it! It's called Standard Publishing…
