Tip of the Day…

We had company this weekend, and we all know that means getting everything spic and span. Our plastic shower curtain was in dire straits, and I was ready to replace it altogether.
I don’t know what’s in our water, but we have reddish deposits around the tub drain and at the bottom of the shower curtain that can build up if you let them.

Chris vetoed the new shower curtain idea, so I decided to try throwing it in the washer. I have tried that before with another shower curtain but wasn’t impressed with the end result. I thought it could only improve the situation, however, so I thought I would give it a try. I modified what I had tried previously (I think it was vinegar and bleach?) since that didn’t work too well.

Here’s my marvelous method…

  • Remove curtain from hooks and lay semi-flat
  • Spray mildew area with Shout stain remover
  • Wash with bleach and detergent on the hot water setting
  • Don’t have a blond moment and put it the dryer… hang to dry back on the shower rod

Wala! You will have a brand new shower curtain! I could not believe it when I pulled it out of the washer. It was spotless. It looked brand new. I was very happy that now I would not have to subject our guests to our old dingy curtain, and I didn’t break the bank splurging on a new one.

So take a minute or two and wash those shower curtains! Let me know if it works for you too!

Tip definitly works. I have done it before. Now that I don’t have shower curtains, I don’t have to worry about them. I have to worry about spots on the glass…ahhh! i feel like I am always cleaning the shower.

What a great tip! I’ve got to try that, because I just hate having to spend money on a new shower curtain every few days or so. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, if pumpkinhead-michelle wants to try something, she should wash her glass shower with pledge dusting oil. It repels the water, and gets rid of those awful water spots (we get those a lot up here). Works great on faucets, too!
