The Splendor of School Shopping!

I have had such fun shopping for Haylee’s school supplies, lol! You would think I were the one about to start school! Here is her list…

I think that we just about have everything minus a few items like the plastic baggies (I have some stockpiled, and I just have to check and see if I have the correct size.), bandaids and play-dough. I think her favorite item to get was the Barbie lunchbox. Lunchboxes have certainly come a long way over the years, but one area they have not improved in is the “included thermos.”
In my day every lunch box came with an insulated, somewhat heavy duty thermos. This is not the case in this era. IF a lunchbox comes with a thermos, it is actually just a flimsy, beyond cheapo, white water bottle that doesn’t even match the lunch box. If you decide that you want the insulated thermos you get to shell out another $15! Granted the thermos has improved. It is no longer plastic. There were stainless steel ones available in every pattern/cartoon possible. After debate and pondering, despite Haylee’s desire for the $15 Barbie thermos, she ended up with a $3 pink water bottle instead. I’m sure she will survive. :) Doesn’t she look so pleased with herself? :)
One of the items was so hard to find, and that was after we had to figure out what it even was! It was listed as plastic folder with velcro closure. After talking with one of the teachers from last year, we realized it was similar to an accordian file with only one slot. She said that it was very difficult for parents to find last year, and didn’t think it was available at any of the normal office supply stores. I did find some online, but didn’t want to have to pay $3 for the folder and then an additional amount for shipping. Office Max had some plastic folders with a snap closure and some paper folders with velcro closure! So my big idea was to get the plastic ones, remove the snaps and attach velcro! Easy, right?

Well, not quite. We only removed the inside snap, but the velcro won’t stay attached when you attempt to open the flap, and I’m thinking I should have just left it with the snap. :) I may have to remove the outside snap too in order to give it better stickiness and just try to hide the resulting hole with a sticker or something tacky like that! We shall see…

This weekend is tax free weekend which of course, means you get all your back to school needs TAX FREE! There are a suprising amount of items that actually qualify for tax free, so check the list to see if there is anything you may want to take advantage of this weekend.

Hey Renee and Haylee!! I always enjoyed the new school year getting new stuff. I love the smell of new Crayloa crayons. Jared is just about done his needs list also. I got the real Play-Do classic colors 4 pack at Target for 1.79. They also had a “pretty” 4pack of colors. Her uniform is similar to our schools. Her peter pan color is way cuter with that blue edging on the sleeves and collar.

Wow, that is a bunch of really cool stuff. I remember those Thermos things that came with every lunch box and the lid would flip around to make a cup.

I looked at the list via your very convenient link and I think I will be purchasing a few items for school my self.

She’s so cute with all of her school “loot”. ;) Sorry you couldn’t find any of the folders they were looking for and had to go to all the trouble of rigging another. Who cares what it looks like, as long as it’s functional, right!?

BTW, — LOVE your new background/header. Very cool.
