We had a great time with the fam at Lake Lure. It was kind of unique vacay destination… at the mountains but fun in the water too! :)
Chris and I really enjoyed our two days alone!
Since we were a “late arrival” {after 6 pm} we had to enter our special code in the special box in order to get our keys and check-in info. We got there and took this picture all happy like, tried to get our code and no luck. We were at the wrong location. Thankfully they had directions to get where we were supposed to be. {The resort is co-owned or whatever, so when you make your reservation you may get the Wyndham units…which is our timeshare… or you may get the other company’s, thus the two different check-in locales.}
We got to check in place #2 and could NOT get the lock on special box #2 to open. It took forever, and we were starting to get a leeetle bit worried, but it FINALLY decided to work for us. :)
So… then we took our “ready for fun” pic #2…
We got a map with directions to our place that we had to, you know, just READ without any actual person saying, “go here,” “turn here” etc. Not a challenge for most people capable of reading a map, I’m sure, but it didn’t end well for this navigator.
In my defense, the map was NOT anywhere close to scale which made predicting future turns a bit of a mystery.
After MUCH driving, I finally just entered the street our unit was on into google maps on my phone. There was BARELY a signal, so it took HALF A YEAR before it would ever pull anything up. I think the only reason we EVER found the place was thanks to the phone, slow though it was.
We miraculously were finally able to pull up to our little place and breathe a sigh of relief! Ahhh. We were here!
Uh, enter glitch #482.
Our key doesn’t work.
Ha ha! It was really laughable at that point. We had to drive all the way back up to the gate and ask the security guard who basically told us that we couldn’t get a new key until the next day and we would have to wait for a maintenance person to come let us in. Funny, huh?!
We did eventually get in and settled, thankfully and had some good times. :)
Believe it or not, we actually went CANOEING together! A first for us…
Definitely couldn’t do that with three kids in tow. :)
I wasn’t brave enough to risk taking the camera into our wobbly craft, so we took these pics to prove we did indeed go canoeing… though you can see {above} my rule breaker hubby had no life jacket on…
He’s definitely a wild one. :)
We also had lunch out alone too… or, uh, semi-alone. We didn’t have OUR 3 kids but we did have SEVEN other kids who the parents decided to let run loose.
I just CASUALLY snapped these pics after it went on and on and ON! They were literally playing LEAP FROG in there! See how close they are to our table???
There weren’t many people in there so I guess the parents thought it was okay.
As treasured as our meals out alone are, I DID NOT think it was cute. Trust me.
Want more proof? I even videoed the mayhem because I knew otherwise no one would really believe it!
Oh yes. I did.
Thankfully, we WERE able to later enjoy a scrumptious dinner out at Larkins on the Lake…
No Leap Frog in sight, and the food was so yummy. Whew.
We also went over near Chimney Rock to do some walking and perusing through their cute little shops.
I think we only bought one thing, but it was fun strolling and checking stuff out!
The good thing about going somewhere fairly close to home… we got a few days alone and then met Nana & Pop to get the kiddos for a few more days of fun with the whole fam.
More on that to come… :)
What’s your Favorite Vacay Destination?
Mountains? Beach? Theme Park? Quiet Stay-cation?
Oh. My. WORD. I cannot believe the parents letting their (how many??) kids play around like that. I would have wanted to say…we are here on vacay w/o our kids (first time in a while), um, do you mind if you have your kids play somewhere else, so we can enjoy our meal?? (I'd never actually say it, but still….)LOL.
Love the shops near Chimney Rock…so neat! Never brave enough for canoeing, but the boat tour is fun!
I loved it when my friend and I stayed there on Spring break my Senior year of collage. Such a pretty place. I am SO looking forward to Josh and I getting away sometime. Probably a year from now, but I can start dreaming about it right?
It was definitely SHOCKING! Every once in a while a parent would throw out a lame "Be quiet" but it didn't effect the kids too much. Looked like it was three or so families vacationing together. At one point the older kids were forcing two of the little ones (around 2 or 3 yrs old) to kiss each other!! The little girl was crying b/c she didn't want to! Come on parents!!!!!!
Wow! Those are probably going to be the kids that grow up and take phone calls in the movie theater ruining it for the rest of us!
When is comes to vacation spots I love them all! I grew up in a mountain town, so that is very close to my heart, I LOVE the beach (sometimes I dream of being a surf bum), and roller coasters make me giggle!
My all time favorite vacation was when I got the opportunity to go to Costa Rica! Three week study abroad program (for Spanish) and we got to live with a host family for two weeks! We got to play on the beach, walk through the rainforests, and meet the nicest people ever!
It looks like you had a great time in a beautiful place. I hope you next vacation is even better!
Pura Vida!
