The Flood

We had some rain this week which can be interesting at school since the buildings are so, uh, mature! They are in really good shape to be as old as they are, I think, but rain does make her age apparent.

I was working after school one day this week when all of a sudden I heard a tinkling sound. This is in the midst of a deluge I was trying to wait out as to not have to carry Wade to the car through the flood.

I started looking around to find the source of the tinkling and was shocked to see water pouring in quite steadily right by my door. I freaked out a bit and then called down to the office.

I said frantically, “Water’s pouring in my room.”
Sherri (our school’s secretary who is the bomb!) said calmly, “Okay. Who are you??”
That settled me down a bit and I said, “Oh. This is Renee.”

We started putting our trashcans and library bins out to catch all the water. It was coming in sooo fast!

One of the tiles crashed under the weight of the water, which was quite dramatic as I’m sure you can imagine. :)

I was very nervous coming into school the next day, wondering what the situation would look like since it was still pouring when I left. This meant I got to do the fun routine of carrying Wade, diaper bag and umbrella through the flood! It was great. You should’ve been there.

Really. If you were there, you could’ve helped me. :)

It was pretty cleaned up when I got there, thankfully. Though it was missing two complete ceiling tiles leaving me a large gaping hole that my students thought was quite exciting as they came into class.

I had to take down all my things off the wall and the door, and I still haven’t put them back up yet for fear of what future leaks may happen. :)

I can’t imagine this happening during school. Talk about freak out session! My kids would’ve had a fit, and I would’ve had to try to be calm and responsibly handle the crisis.

Good thing that didn’t happen, huh?

So very funny. It is amazing what so easily excites those oh so in control teachers. Hope they get it all fixed shortly.

I know the feeling about floods. The river by our house flooded right into the garage (which is Matt’s office and our storage area). It was up to our knees. I know others had it worse than we did. Glad you didn’t have the kids there. That always freaks them out. Hope it doesn’t happen to you again anytime soon:)
