It’s been a “hot five” (as my rad friend Heather would say!) since I’ve posted, I know. Life happens sometimes which can hinder my blogging life. :) I will often check facebook and email etc while I am feeding or holding Wade which I am able to semi-successfully do one handed. Typing a short email or comment is hard enough one handed and often leaves me with embarrassing typos that I must groan and suffer through. Typing a blog update while thus impaired is the ultimate in frustration so that leaves me with updating only when I have the luxury of both hands. :)
Life has been crazy as normal and Wade is doing well. He is growing like crazy and is now 8 weeks old. He had a bit of a cough and the sniffles last week so I took him in to see the doctor just to be on the safe side since the cough was sounding worse and worse. He was fine… just a cold I guess, but I was happy to get an accurate weight update. At seven weeks he was 10 lbs 8 oz which means everything is still going well and he is getting the nourishment he needs (not to bring up any past issues with certain anon readers out there… heehee… sorry I couldn’t resist!).
He is in that delightful stage where he will reward your efforts to talk and play with him with adorable smiles and coos. One of Haylee’s favorite things to do is that very thing. Sometimes I think he doesn’t quite know what to think of this little loud person all up in his face–hair and all.
Speaking of hair, he’s thankfully starting to grow some on top of his head now! Maybe we can say goodbye to his receding hairline soon.
I reached a hugely significant milestone last week as some of you know. This old girl is now quite ancient. I hit the big 3-0! Somehow I don’t feel any older and 30 just isn’t as old as I used to think it was, of course. It’s amazing how time can fly by you, and before you know it, you’ve passed your twenties and are actually beginning a new decade of life. I think my thirties will be good to me though. A friend pointed out so poignantly that I need to look around at where I am in life at 30, and all I have been able to accomplish and all I’ve been blessed with. I realized she was right. I’ve definitely come a long, long way from where I was just 10 or 15 years ago. Partly from just growing up and partly from the love and encouragement and confidence my husband has helped me nurture. I can say that although I’m not where I’d like to be, I’m much less concerned about what people I may not even like that much think about me. :)
So my big day came and went and I managed to survive. Chris took the day off, and we took the kiddos to the park and ate lunch, and then he and I were able to enjoy a dinner out alone while his Aunt Linda watched the kids!
I’m not sure if she’ll be so willing to do it again as Wade wasn’t too kind to her! She brought over some food for dinner for Haylee and her, but wasn’t able to actually eat it until much later because he decided that it was time to be held. At one point, she said that she told Haylee she would give her a million dollars if she would feed her the burger! I know how she feels! She also suffered Haylee’s admonishing when she would not do something quite as Haylee thought she should. :)
The night before my birthday, Heather took me out for a girls night of pampering, eating, and of course the most priceless thing of all…uninterrupted TALKING! You see, whenever Heather comes over, Haylee and I have to fight over her attention. Haylee thinks that Heather should come into her room and begin to play whatever her little heart desires, while I think that a few minutes of adult conversation with another live human being is much more important. We usually try to share her, but Haylee does get frustrated when no one is paying her the attention she so urgently desires!
So, anyway, uninterrupted conversations… whoo hoo! We went to South Park for my first ever pedicure. It was sooo amazing. I can’t believe I’ve never had one of these before. The massaging chair, the foot spa, someone rubbing crazy stuff on your feet and legs, and ending up with some cute feet is pretty stupendous. Especially when we’re talking about my crazy toes. :) After the pedicure, we went to the Cheesecake Factory for my first time. It was such a cool place with ambience out the roof, and the food was good too! We ended with some strawberry cheesecake and headed home… back to reality!
This weekend we celebrated my nephew, Miller’s birthday at Nana and Pop’s house. Miller and I actually share a birthday which is kind of funny. The theme was Thomas the Train and fun was had by one and all. I think Miller was a bit more excited about reaching number 4 than I was about my big 30. :)
We decided to head down to Seneca, SC on Sunday to Camp Creek Baptist Church for their Friend Day with Chris’s parents. Chris’s family all went there back in the day… I think ages 13-17 for Chris.
Everyone was glad to see Chris and were shocked that he had managed to grow up! :) I’m sure it was quite shocking to see him again at 30 with wife and two kids in tow.
We went out to a scrumptious lunch and then spent some time at Billy and Robin’s condo. I got in touch with my cousin who coincidentally also lives in Seneca, and we stopped by her house to spend a few minutes with her and her husband.
It was a long day driving over 2 hours one way, but Haylee and Wade both did pretty well on the trip. Haylee actually spazzed on the way home because she went to get a drink of her bottled water thinking the lid was on and splashed it all over herself. She began wailing at the top of her lungs, “THIS DOESN’T FEEL GOOD!”. Well, being the prepared mom that I am, I was ready with two spare outfits for Wade, but no extra shirt for Haylee. We managed to get her calmed down and Chris so graciously gave up his under shirt for her to wear the rest of the way. It was very interesting doing all this hoopla while trucking it down the interstate, but we made it home safe and sound ready or not to start another week!
Haylee has been working on her 4K school papers at home since we’ve been out of school, and it’s been very telling to see how impatient I tend to be with her. Hmm, not too good, huh? She’s doing pretty well considering, and actually reached an important milestone today. She read her very first book! Granted it was only about 5 pages long about a pup named Tip, but it was still a book!! I can’t believe she is growing up so fast. *tear* :( In a few months, she’ll be starting Kindergarten! Yikes!
So that’s the scoop of what’s going on around here. I will try to be better on updating in the future… :)
Yay for finally being caught up! ;) I remember how difficult those first couple weeks and months were trying to do anything, much less write out a blog update! ;) So glad that everyone is doing so well and yay for Haylee’s 1st book! ;)
Hey girl! Glad you got to have a girls day out! Sounds like you had a great time. I know the feeling of a four year old trying to get the attention of every friend you have over. Morgann is the same way. Glad to hear Wade is healthy and growing. He is a cutie. Oh, Morgann saw the book Haylee had and was so excited she was reading that book too:)
I bet the under shirt coming off Chris driving down the road was funny. Glad you all are doing well and happy belated birthday!
Wow – you’ve been busy! So much to update… all good news.
Sounds like you had a really nice birthday. I am glad that you had a girls night out. – Those are ALWAYS fun. :) (Esp. when they involve pedicures!) LOL.
Hooray for Haylee on her incredible accomplishment! How very exciting.
Happy Birthday! I can’t believe you’ve never had a pedicure before! Aren’t they the greatest? After the baby’s born (oh, I’m due in 3 weeks, btw), I’m really hoping for an hour or two off to get my feet fixed. It’ll be so nice to see my feet again, lol!
You’ve been really busy. Thanks for updating!
YAY! For Girls Night Out!!! I had so much fun! Way looking forward to Saturday too!
