Friday was Red and White day as our culmination to the crazy Spirit Week and the night of our big Homecoming game. This year’s spirit shirts were only available to purchase at the very beginning of school and I did not utilize the opportunity. So, unless they get enough requests in, they will not be making another order. Well, I wanted to have something to wear on “Spirit Shirt Days” held every so often through the year, so I had a big idea to just make my own!
It’s kind of scary since as I’ve said before, I’m not really that kind of crafty. I scored a $3 white shirt at Kmart. (They have a ton of clothes clearanced out right now, fyi.) Then I picked up some embroidered iron on letters to complete my handmade shirt. The letters I got at Hobby Lobby for 63 cents each! It was a breeze to make, and I think it turned out nicely. I did get some comments on it, and when I responded with “I made it” I would get groans and eye rolling, etc. :) Then I would have to explain that all I did was iron some letters on… nothing Martha Stewart-esqe. So here’s my creation…. What do you think?
The Homecoming Parade and Football Game were the big events scheduled for the evening. Chris came straight from work and met me for the game. We sat right behind the band which both he and Haylee enjoyed very much! They played some Beach Boys songs that Haylee was breaking down to. Chris was flashing back to his high school band days, and I actually talked with the band director’s wife today and was informed that the director allows adults who are so inclined to bring out their instrument and join in the fun. Kinda cool, I think…
The parade was nice and the JH and HS sponsored floats were crazy as could be expected. Billy and Robin (Chris’s parents) came for the game as well. Robin actually went to Northside in 9th grade and was hoping to reconnect with some former classmates. Her class had planned their 30 year reunion for Saturday, and she had hoped one of her good friends (which is actually the sister of my partner teacher) would be there for the game. Unfortunately, her friend wasn’t going to be getting in until Friday evening, and Robin was unable to connect with anyone at the game. I felt really badly about it, since I know it would have been so neat for her to hook up with her former HS buds.
It started to rain before the 2nd half and umbrella-less wimps that we were, we decided to just leave early. As a result, I still don’t know who actually won the game. :) Not that I was paying any attention to the game when actually present. ;)
On the way out, Abi, the fourth grade teacher, invited us over to their house since they were bailing early too. I was able to coax Chris from his anti-social shell a bit, and he agreed to go! They actually don’t live too far from us… about 15 minutes I think, and we had a good time. They have a big lab/retriever mix that Chris and Haylee enjoyed playing with immensely! Haylee did have a panic attack initially when she thought Shay (the dog) was going to get her. I think she really panicked so badly because she was kind of cornered and was thinking she was not going to be able to get away from the dog. Of course, her wild antics only attracted Shay’s attention even more. So, poor Shay was banished to the patio, to stare woefully at those of us inside. :) Chris finally convinced Haylee to agree to let her come back in and she did eventually warm up to her.
So, a busy week ending with a busy night…. such is life, eh?
