My nephew Jared has been struggling with asthma a bit lately and went to the doctor Wednesday with some more symptoms. His oxygen levels were so low they sent him to Presbyterian Children’s Hospital via an exciting ambulance ride. They were only supposed to keep them a night, but decided to keep him last night too based on how bad things were when he checked in. He had been asking for Haylee so we all decided to drive over and see if we could cheer him up. As we arrived to his room, they were cleaning him up from a bout with his IV. He pulled out the the IV wire which resulted in blood gushing out from his arm. Mack met us at the door and informed us it was like CSI in there. :)
They had been promising Jared a trip to the hospital playground when the nurse came and took out the IV, but… that didn’t happen because they decided he needed another dose of the steriods. So we braved the playground with IV in tow.
This was a cool car that was IV equipped, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get his on there because of the little box that was also hooked to it.
Everwhere Jared went, his IV went… that is, if you wanted to prevent another CSI episode. This got tricky in the play area. Imagine taking a three year old on steriods to a play ground and then tell him he can’t get on the things he wants to get on. Not a good situation. There were things he could do, but each time all his crew had to coordinate to get him safely on and off.
The hospital had a bird “cage” and an aquarium that they both loved. One of their favorite things, though, was playing with the hospital bed. Up and down, up and down… great fun!
Ohhh, so sorry to hear that he hasn’t been feeling well! Hospitals are NEVER fun, no matter what one’s age. Pray he is feeling better now.
