Up on the menu this week…
Monday… Easy Stromboli
Tuesday… Poppy Seed Chicken
Wednesday… Slow Cooked Steak {from last week}
Thursday… Favorites Buffet
Friday… Pizza Night
Saturday… Brown Pork Chops
As previously alluded to, last week was a ROUGH one. Thursday being the roughest. In light of that fact, I just have to mention that on the menu Thursday night was BBQ Chicken Wings. In no other reality, would we have been sitting down to a home cooked meal after a day like that one. BUT since the meal was already prepped and all I had to do was pour the Ziploc bag into the crockpot, we were not forced to resort to a Drive Thru Dinner.
Just one more perk of the prep ahead method! :)
This week’s menu is FULL of brand new recipes I’m trying out!! Sorry, honey! Hopefully they will be a success in the eyes of the family of food critics I cook for.
I’m really looking forward to trying the Poppy Seed Chicken. It looks like it would be good, and it’s something different for me. I really had NEVER even SEEN poppy seeds in the grocery store, so I had NO IDEA where to find them. My best guess was either with the sunflower seeds or in the spice section.
I found the LAST ONE in the new McCormick Gourmet selection.
I’m learning something everyday, ha ha! Who knew you could buy poppy seeds?
For some reason the recipe is NOT very specific which means it’s probably from an actual accomplished chef since they are less likely to be “exact” in their cooking. They just add a bit of this and a bit of that, you know. Now, me on the other hand, I need things to be exact and precise. Tell me EXACTLY how much and what kind do I need to be using.
So if you decide to try this one here’s some specifics on what I did.
{1/2 stick butter, 16 Ritz crackers, & 11×7 casserole dish}
This was definitely an easy week! Just 30 minutes to prep three meals…

you will love the poppy seed chicken!! I don't always add the poppy seeds (you can't really taste them) and we call it "Chicken of the Ritz"! And we don't eat it on rice but that is probably my fault – I am not a huge rice fan unless it is fried rice but David loves it so need to fix it more! :)
here's the recipe for it that I posted – http://www.centsiblesavings.com/2009/08/my-favorite-budget-friendly-family.html
Poppyseed chicken is the best! It's a staple in our household. I must respectfulyl disagree with Censitble Savings (although I LOVE her blog!!!), we think the poppyseeds make a big difference. We were out one time and therefore omitted them from the recipe… We felt it made a difference in the taste (although I'm not sure how… they really don't have flavor!)
Enjoy! And keep those receipes coming!! :-)
Thanks Christina for the tips/recipe. I will check it out! Chris is not much of a rice fan either. Maybe it's a "southern" thing? He'd rather do mashed potatoes, though he will eat the rice. He REALLY is not a fan of reheated rice! :)
Jenn, glad you are enjoying the recipes!! I try to find links for as many as I can! :)
Hey!! Thanks for stopping by! I am glad to be back home and "live blogging" again! :)
I love how organized you are. You have inspired me to do some meal planning. I wing it daily and it's exhausting. HEHE. Happy Monday.
I loved this chicken recipe. It will be one of mine for this week's menu monday. Thanks for the idea. I am linking it back to you, as well as the site the recipe came from. Although, I did tweak the recipe a bit. Thanks again, I love trying new recipes.
