Our little man has gotten sick-0 on us again… He went to bed with a slight fever on Monday and woke up around midnight wheezing horribly. He sounded awful. :( Chris got him back to sleep, but he was up again around 2 am again sounding just plain awful. He got another breathing treatment, but when his breathing continued to be the loudest wheezing we had ever heard, we decided to take him into the ER. Fun, fun! We dropped off Haylee at Sam and Heathers… sorry for waking you up guys… and were on our way.
What’s interesting is that Chris’s last day at Vanguard was Monday… which meant that our last day of insurance was… you guessed it… Monday! We didn’t even make it 3 hours uninsured before we were at the hospital. (This means we are definitely electing the outrageously priced COBRA…)
They diagnosed him with Croup and gave him “something-epinephrine” in a breathing treatment and an oral steroid which calmed the wheezing sound down majorly. We were at the ER for about 2 hours and most of that time was waiting in between pop-ins from the doctor and nurses. They checked his temperature a few times since he was 103.7 when we got there. In between people messing with him, Wade would calm down and drift off to sleep. During those stretches, Chris and I both were having a HARD time making it. We were sitting on hard chairs trying our best to get comfortable and rest our poor little eyes!
We got home at almost 6 am and were able to catch an hour or two of sleep before Wade woke up again. This definitely taught us that we are NOT as young as we once were! I don’t think there are anymore all-nighters in our future… Well, at least ones of our own planning, that is. :)
Wade is doing much better than he was, but has been somewhat miserable at moments and nearly inconsolable at others. From what I read online, Croup can last several nights, but the intensity lessons each night. He seems to be doing better this morning. He’s even playing by himself which is a remarkable feat.
Yesterday, he wanted to be held almost constantly and even then was miserable. One calming factor was the TV channel, Nick Jr. It was like his crack cocaine. He seriously would be freaking out. You change the channel to Nick Jr. and it was like a magic button you pushed. It didn’t always last, but it was how we got him to go to sleep last night… The only side effect is that Nick Jr. can drive any sane adult completely bonkers after just a few minutes. Ahh!
I’ve had a sub the past two days, but I think I should be okay to be back tomorrow if things keep going well today.
In related news, today is Chris’s first day at his new job at Vector Vest. He is very excited about the possibilities there, and I hope to hear a great report from him tonight. He won’t have insurance for 90 days which always makes life interesting, but it looks like we’ll be on COBRA at least for the moment.
Fun, fun! Stuff happens and life goes on….
Oh dear – so sorry to hear about Wade. What an ordeal w/ the insurance. We've been having a few interesting "events" of our own lately and I've been really resting in the fact that God already knew all about it and gives us just what we need to make it through. I'll be praying for Wade's recover, for Chris at his new job, and for your schedule to somewhat return to normal. Enjoy the remainder of your week!!
Anytime. We're happy to help. Aren't you glad you have good neighbors? I'm sure you'll be returning the favor sometime.
