Guest Post… Beautiful

I get to introduce Rachel from This Journey Our Life to you today!  I’ve known Rachel and her hubby and both of their extended families for forever, and I was happy that she has gotten back into blogging again.

She went through a life changing event early in their marriage when she delivered their first little baby at only 1 lb 2 oz!  That story is an amazing one, and she has a beautiful way of writing about the experiences that they have been able to grow through because of that.

Several weeks ago, we arrived home after church on a Wednesday night. The night was unseasonably warm, and the moon shone clear and bright, along with several stars.  The magnificent scenery captivated my son and he immediately began chattering about what he saw.

“Mommy, look at the moon!” Lucas shouted.

I acknowledged his observation and pointed out how brightly it was shining.  Immediately, our conversation grabbed Cami’s attention who loves anything having to do with lights!

She chimed right in and asked if I would pick her up to see it. Rudy joined us on the side of the van where we were standing and lifted her up onto his shoulders. Pointing to the moon he asked if she could see it, but with a hint of disappointment in her voice she told us she could not.

“Cami can’t see the moon because of her eyes,” Lucas blurted out as soon as Cami was finished speaking.

Recently, Lucas has begun to inquire about Cami and her visual impairment. His observations are often limited to a single comment here or a remark there. In an effort to avoid putting unnecessary thoughts into his mind we simply approach each situation as they present themselves: to the simple comment we may quietly listen, and to more detailed remarks we may encourage further conversation with questions. The bottom line is that we always want him to feel comfortable sharing his perspective as Cami’s sibling and have the freedom to share with us whatever questions or concerns he may have. The same goes for Sophia.

I carefully pondered these thoughts as I debated whether I should ask him to explain further what he meant.  I decided to proceed.

“What do you think about that, Lucas? What do you think about Cami’s eyes?” I asked.

He paused—his  eyes looked to one side as he thoughtfully tilted his head . Then, a smile spread across his face as he confidently stated one word.

“Beautiful.”

As soon as he spoke it, my heart filled so quickly with emotion that it felt as if it could burst!

I felt pride in the son who spoke honestly from his heart, joy from the fact he chose to tell me, and awe over the profound truth found in the simple statement of a four year old boy.

My four year old boy.

I praised him for the sweet, kind comment about his sister and voiced my agreement.

As we made our way into the house, I whispered my thanks to the Lord for allowing me the privilege of being part of that special moment—one that would blossom into a memory, the fragrance of which would undoubtedly linger for years to come.

Yes, the night was indeed beautiful.

It’s amazing to me how God can use those tiny, little moments of life and make them something remarkable.   I know Rachel would love it if you all popped in for a visit!

She actually used a lot of the Beautify Your Blog posts to transform and relaunch her blog with her header, sidebar titles, signature, and more.  :)

Go check it out and show her some love!

Unlike Google, Yahoo is not a company that’s known because of its security prowess, and actually, many
of the Snowden revelations have called Yahoo users.
