Fabulous Fourth Fun

The fourth of July is such a fun time with family, food and fireworks!!! We got a double dose of the Fourth Fun with both sides of the Fam this year.

We spent Tuesday night with my parents and saw the Shelby Fireworks, and then spent the fourth at Chris’s parents with the same chain of events. The two meals were almost identical, actually.
I guess there are just certain things that must be standard Independence Day fare… hot dogs, burgers, potato salad, baked beans, and watermelon! There were a few differences here and there, but the staples were present at both gatherings.

After the cookout, we headed to Charlotte for the Knights game. They did a phenomenal fireworks display after the game. It was really good, but oh-so-late! They didn’t even start until about 10:45 pm! I don’t know if I’ve ever been closer to the fireworks before. We were sitting to the left of home plate and they were shooting them off behind right field.
We could even see the billowing smoke from the launching point. They were definitely one of the best we’ve ever seen…

It was a little after 11 pm when we were heading to the car, but we didn’t make it out of the parking lot area until 12:15 am or so!!!!

The cars were backed up forever. It was agonizingly slow-going. They had a record breaking 15,ooo plus in attendance at the game and all 15,ooo leaving at once wasn’t working!

There was also a lady two cars up from us that was driving Chris nuts the whole time! She was the passenger of her vehicle and she kept hanging out waving her arms directing traffic, pointing, and motioning everyone.

She also periodically kept getting out of her truck and heading off to help yet another poor soul.
I found it humorous, and Chris found it annoying. His annoyance added to my humor… :)

All in all, it was a good Fourth this year…

We went to one of the local parks on Tuesday night to watch the fireworks. They were over about 10:30 and then it took FOREVER to get out of the park. That many cars leaving at once is a nightmare!
