Cruising Capers… Day 3

Day 3...Half Moon Cay...heading out
Day 3 of the Big Cruise began by docking at a private island Carnival called “Half Moon Cay,” but if you look it up on a map, it’s called “Little San Salvador.”  I had read online people saying this was the MOST beautiful island they had ever been to.
It truly was amazingly beautiful.  I can only assume it is partly because it is not as “touched” as other more populated places.  The only people who actually live there are the caretakers and some workers. To be labeled a “Cay” (pronounced “key”) instead of an “Island” is based on size and population, in case you care. :)

The “harbor” was not large enough for the ship so we had to “tender” ashore.  Another vocab lesson for you… tender is basically to go ashore on smaller boats.  Our only excursion of the cruise (they are Expensive!) was a Glass Bottom Boat tour soon after we got there.  It was neat to see the coral and fish through the crystal clear water.  According to the guide, the water was about 35 feet deep and we could clearly see straight to the bottom.

When you looked out over the water, it was this brilliant aqua blue color, and as it actually lapped onto the beach, the water was c-l-e-a-r.  Seriously clear.

We were the only cruise ship on the island so that was nice, and they had a yummy lunch ready for us there on the island of grilled burgers and hotdogs! We spent some time soaking up the rays before and after lunch and then headed back to the boat.

We tried to rent a locker for our bag of stuff, but decided against it when they wanted SEVEN dollars to rent it for the day.  We were brave instead and just used one of the lockers that was already open and just crossed our fingers that no one walked off with it.  Our carnival towels alone would’ve cost us $22 a piece to replace!  :)  Thankfully, our risk paid off, and we kept our seven bucks and our towels.  :)

Back on board we relaxed a bit before our Couples Massage!  It was heavenly, with the only downside being that I was a m-o-r-o-n of the highest order and completely forgot to put sunscreen on my shoulders!  They were toasted!  :(

Ouch!  I had rubbed some right below my neck, but obviously didn’t get it very well, since I was then left with an oh-so-lovely striped red and white look!  It took a few days for the sting to subside… :(
Day 3... dinner after Half Moon Cay... sunburned!
We headed to dinner and then crashed for the night!
More Cruising Capers to come… hopefully, I’m not boring you to tears, but I want to recount the details here so we can actually remember them… we’re old now, you know!

I guess the odds aren't that high, really, but I was so shocked to see that we went to the SAME island when we went with Carnival! How cool! Andy loved the roosters and chickens that tended to wander everywhere . . .

    Sorry about your shoulders :(
