Blood, Bandaids, & Blanket Bizarreness

Yesterday was yet another crazy day. My life of late has been quite hectic as I’m helping in two big events coming up. March 17th is a friend’s wedding that I’ve volunteered to be the wedding planner/coordinator for. The closer we get, the more frenzied things become. :) The latest crisis is the minister cancelled. Minor detail, right?

The other event is our church’s annual Ladies Banquet coming up April 14th. This is a very big deal planned out usually for an entire year. The theme this year is “Her price is far above rubies…” Right now, we are selling tickets and working on skits to advertise the banquet during the services coming up.

So, as I started out, yesterday was another crazy day. I had an appointment around noon, and Chris came home for lunch to watch the Tarheels game. Right as the game ended and Chris was about to head back Haylee “woke up” from her nap. Whether or not she actually slept or not is up for debate. Chris rushed back to work, and Haylee promptly fell on her face while spinning in her socks on the hard kitchen floor.

It looked to me like she fell on her mouth, so when I saw no blood there, I assured her she was fine. I even told her there was no blood which is her indicator to panic. But, alas, I looked down a bit, and there was a nice big blood pool forming on her chin. It looked horrific. Really. Once we got the blood wiped, things did not look pretty. I decided to call Chris back and get his expert medical opinion. :) His verdict was ice, but no stitches. So he headed back to work once again, and the poor girl had to sit with ice on her chin for an hour. We even set the microwave timer to let her know when she could take it off.

Kelly and Bette Anne planned to come over to wrap bubbles in tulle. So as Chris was leaving Kelly, Johnny and crew arrived. After the timer beeped, B made a quite large gauze and tape bandage for her chin. It looked quite pathetic.

We finished the bubbles, and eventually moved her to a regular bandaid, which made it look much, much less heart-rending.

That night, as Chris and I were heading to bed, Chris found Haylee sitting on her knees in the middle of her room looking around hazily. He tucked her back in and she was off to sleep again.

About 3 am this morning, we awoke to her cries. I went in to check on her and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. She was sitting up on her bed, blankets everywhere, and tearily said, “Can you help me?” She was completely tangled in her sheet and blanket. I still have no idea how she managed that. Her sheet was actually wrapped tightly around her NECK! There is no warning I’ve ever heard about the hazard of letting your child sleep with a sheet. :)

It might have been the groggy factor, but I could not get the thing off of her. It was wrapped around her neck and then wedged beneath her arm or somewhere. It was crazy. I did finally remove it and once again, off to sleep she went.
Kids definitely keep your life interesting…

Here’s the gory details… It’s looking much better this morning…

Awww, poor little thing! You know, your daughter is seriously cute. Chris is going to have to buy a shotgun when she hits the teenage years!

Hope things go well for you with all the planning!
