BJU Radio Address from 1996…

I thought some of you might enjoy this funny video about Bob Jones University back in the day… I didn’t go to BJ, but I went to Ambassador which is basically the same in a lot of their rules, etc, so I can definitely appreciate the humor. :)

WOW! I also went to Ambassador, but honestly, I do not find anything humorous about that video. It is sad to think that such an announcement would be made, and thought necessary. I agree that the language on our college campuses has declined, and that our Christian young men and women have lost the idea of holiness in their language and conduct. Though it was not necessary for them to be so graphic in their language.

Oh yeah… they were still doing those radio addresses when I was there in ’98. We would almost NEVER miss one, so we could collectively laugh our behinds off at the Dean’s saying some of that stuff! Ahhh, good times…

“Gentils”? Yeah, let’s make sure we “get that right”. It’s college students; c’mon. Oh to be a fly on the wall when the rat was tattlingly to the dean… “they’re saying stuff like____.” “Okay, well, what does that mean? Uh, how do you say that again?” Obviously, he never got it!…

omg! i got crazy flashbacks at the sight of tony miller. i’m seriously in a panic attack right now. he once interrogated me for 30 mins about the nature of the visit with my aunt martha and the nature of our relationship before i could get a pass to go off campus with her.

as a BJ survivor i have to say i agree with anonymous. that “stuff” is not funny at all. it’s “freaking” traumatizing! lol!

Why is it that Christians are the first to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to condemning? Why is it that we, as a whole, just assume certain connotations of words/sayings without actually studying them and finding out actual facts???? And why are so many Christians so quick to put a sexual connotation with certain words/phrases? Come on, now. How do you really think that makes us look to those who are not followers of Christ???
For instance, anyone ever heard the “rumor” that all of Moe’s menu items are named after gay/porno movies??? Yeah, well that was being spread around here ~ along with a call to ban Moe’s. When I asked the ringleader of this ban if she had actually researched this, of course her response was, “Well, no…” So I did. I researched it myself. And – *drum roll* – not a single one of the menu items are from a gay or porno movie. Oh my gosh!!!! What a shock!
All that to say….as Christians, we need to be careful that we have our facts together before we start condemning. As children of God, we’re all saved by His grace, and the sin of judging someone else because they don’t do things exactly the way you do them is just as bad in God’s eyes as any other sin.
