Since we are just in the infant stages of our Homeschooling Journey, our schedule is still developing and changing. I did, of course, make up a cutesy schedule of our day, added clip art and cute fonts and printed it out. Wala, here’s our day!
Generally, here’s how our days go…
Somewhere from 7:00 to 8:00… Wake up, Clean up, Dress, Brush Teeth, Breakfast
8:00 to 9:00… School Begins!
Bible… She starts by writing her Bible verse each day, so by Friday (or sooner, really) she has memorized her verse without even trying. Then we read the Bible story or I get her started on the Bible worksheet or craft for the day.
Phonics… We practice our special sounds and blends with our Phonics charts, and go over the Letters and Sounds page. Then that page goes in the Seatwork folder as well for later.
English… We go over the new concept for the day and work on the first side of the page together. For the back side of the page she does each section independently before I check it. During the the Grammar chapters, she also has a extra worksheet to practice the new concept. We go over the directions together, and it goes in the Seatwork folder. We’ve just started our first Writing chapter on Writing a Personal Story, and I imagine we’ll get started on that day’s portion of the writing process and then she will finish for seatwork.
Writing… Ahhh, Writing started out soooo easy! It was the gimme. For the first two weeks, she reviewed Manuscript Writing. Piece of cake! Then our third week we started Cursive Writing. End the easy writing lessons. The problem is not her lack of interest since she was THRILLED to be learning cursive. I think most of the problem is my lack of experience knowing what achievement level I should be expecting from her in these brand new beginning stages. I desperately don’t want her to be the homeschool student with atrocious handwriting! It has gotten a bit easier as the week went on which is good, so hopefully I can ease up on my perfection issues. :)
Reading… We usually migrate to the couch for this one, and I (should I admit this?) catch up on my blog reader while listening to her read out loud to me. She answers a few comprehension questions at the end, and then reads a few pages silently for “homework.” The pages she reads silently she end up re-reading the next day out loud to me.
Spelling… This is the beginning of subjects that she can work on independently which is GREAT! :) She starts out doing “Say-Spell-Say” which is just what it sounds like… You say the word, spell the word, and say it again… all through the list. Each day she does some sort of Spelling activity… word, build, write, Spelling City games or pre-test, or the book exercises. She also reads the poem she is memorizing about once every day.
Seatwork… My wonderful mom is teaching 2nd grade this year and we are having fun swapping ideas. :) She has always printed up the directions for Seatwork for each student which eliminates having to write the Seatwork on the board or paper everyday. She also does cool things like types out what they’re supposed to do making it easier on little ones to follow directions. For example, if it says write before and after numbers by 2’s for 34, 57, and 63, then she typed out ____34_____, _____57_____, _____63_____. See? Isn’t that nifty? I don’t assign all the seatwork, but having it all printed out makes it sooo easy on me. I just cross off what we’re not doing that day…
History/Science… So far, we haven’t started History (minus our 50 States Notebook we’re doing on Fridays). The History, Science, and Health books are not long enough to last the whole year, so I decided to wait a few weeks and get in the groove before adding History.
Journal… About every other day, I assign her a journal topic to write about. Some of her topics have been “My Life Story,” “Being a Big Sister,” and “What I did this Summer.” Her Kindergarten teacher (♥ you, Mrs. Baldwin!) inspired me with the journaling, and it’s just so much fun reading what she has written.
Extra Reading… Each day she reads a chapter in a chapter book. She finished her first one already… Cam Jansen and started a new one, Lanie, from the American Girl.
Somewhere in all that is lunch and sometimes a morning break depending on how things are going… Wade goes down for his nap around 1:00 and sleeps until around 3:00 or 4:00.
How long that all takes just depends on the day. She may finish before lunch, or she may finish sometime after lunch around 1:00 or 2:00.
When she’s finished all her written work, I check it and give any work back for her to correct. I hole punch all her papers and her assignment sheet for the day and put it in a folder to be filed.
My last step of the day is getting out the folder for the next day and load the workbox so we’ll be ready to go in the morning!

Sounds like you're doing great!
One thing I wanted to mention is that BJU Press has us doing History during the fall semester and Science during the spring semester. If your books are short enough, that might work for you. You also wouldn't have as many classes to do in a day.
