Haylee and I made ourselves a bit of snow this year… I’m sure I have made paper snowflakes before… maybe as a kid perhaps, but I don’t remember the last time I did. Soooo, I was a bit rusty on the how to aspect as maybe you are too.
I watched this video from curbly.com which was really helpful.
A couple of pointers that helped me…
You start with an 8.5×11 sheet of paper, which is a rectangle, obviously, but we want it to be a square. A quick and easy way to do that without measuring is just folding over one corner and lining it up with the opposite corner evenly making a triangle shape. Crease and cut off the excess paper. Wala… we have a perfect square!
My other tip is once you have it folded and are ready to start cutting, hold your triangle shape in the position of a backwards “L.” In the corner of the “L” or the bottom right of the triangle is where you need to make your deepest cut. The deeper the cut the more your snowflake will look like a snowflake and less like a square.
So easy right??
I made a few small ones too, strung it on some sparkly ribbon and hung it from the window in the kids’ room.
Now they have some snow in their window for Christmas!
We {the kids and I} are heading to my brother’s house tomorrow afternoon {1.5+ hours away} to spend some time with my side of the family for a few days! A miracle occurred and Dad agreed to make the long drive up. Wahoo!
Chris won’t be able to come until Christmas Eve morning since he doesn’t have vacation days until March. He’ll drive up Friday morning, and we’ll do our gift exchanging with everyone!
Then we’ll drive back home later that night {in 2 cars, yuck!} so we can wake up in our own beds and celebrate Christmas with our fam at our house. In the past 10 years of our marriage, we would then make the 30 minute trek to mom and dad’s and open gifts before heading on to our other destinations. This year that just ain’t happenin’ since 1.5 hours is just a bit much to make.
It will definitely be different not rushing off as soon as the gifts are opened, but I am thankful that we will be able to celebrate with them at all!
Cuz to me…
