Insomnia is kicking my tail…

insomnia1
I’ve never had such trouble getting sleep as I have with this pregnancy.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m just O-L-D now or whether it’s because I’m not working a job this time.  With Haylee I worked until 36 weeks, and with Wade I worked until 38 weeks.  I guess in those cases my pure exhaustion outweighed the pure misery and discomfort of being huge.

We even have a pretty awesome tempur-pedic mattress that is normally heavenly, but I just cannot seem to get a full nights sleep.  On good nights, I wake up few times and go back to sleep fairly quickly.  On bad nights, I wake up and am therefore awake.   Ugh.

I know some preggos have  gone down the Ambien road, but I’m not sure I wanna go there just yet.  Anyone have experience with it?  I’m scared of the side effects like waking up and doing things without remembering them.   However, I don’t know how I’m going to survive the next 6-7 weeks without a good night’s sleep?!!  The worst part is that I can’t even wish for the end of pregnancy as a hope for relief, because I know all too well the lack of sleep that’s awaiting me!!!  :)

What always seems to happen is that I finally can rest once it’s time to be getting up… say around 7 am or later.

Niiiice….

PS… HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite hubby today!  We love you!!!

Have you ever tried melatonin? It's natural – always in the vitamin section. It has helped me many times when I've needed a good night of sleep. I often struggle w/ insomnia, so I feel your pain. Whenever I take antibiotics such as amoxicylin (sp?), I have severe insomnia… and I do mean severe. I would just ask your Dr. about the melatonin (as I never took it when pregnant, … but I would think it'd be ok. -You just never know.) Praying you get a good night of rest tonight!!

I didn't have any experience w/Ambien while pregnant… but my 1 & only experience was while I was in labor with Sam, believe it or not?! The Dr. was *sure* that I wouldn't be progressing to the point of delivery "any time soon" & ordered an Ambien for me so that I could "get some rest" before things got intense. I spent the next several hours hallucinating & although I don't remember it, Danny LOVES to retell me all the CRAZY things I said that night! LOL!

Needless to say, I haven't ever taken any more of it!!

I had sleeping problems with my last pregnancy. My doctor suggested Tylenol PM or Benadryl, both of which are safe for pregnancies and help with sleep. I found the Tylenol PM helped the best since it also made the aches and pains (swollen legs, back aches, etc…) go away. And it was non habit forming, so i had no trouble getting a full night of sleep. Well, once Gideon was sleeping through the night that is. ;-)

I did take Ambien some while I was pregnant, but I was in the hospital on bedrest, hooked up to tons of monitors. If I had gotten up to do crazy things, surely someone would have noticed!! ;)

As far as Fun Fridays, I'm not *planning* much (I know, {gasp!}, Carrie *not* planning?!). We will attend an enrichment Co-op for fun classes like PE and Drama twice a month. The other two (or three) Fridays I hope to do an art project or something like that that doesn't get done as often. We'll also do some field trips and long weekends away when Hubs takes Fridays off! ;)

Hope you get some sleep soon! Have a great day!

I feel for you. There's nothing worse than not being able to sleep. I have trouble sometimes when I'm not pregnant, but so far so good on this pregnancy.

My fave non-pregnancy drug is Lunesta – it is AAAMAAAZING without the side effects of Ambien. I don't know if it's approved for pregnancy yet, though.

I hope you get some sleep soon!!
