Poetry Contest!

CIMG4717

This year Northside held a Poetry Contest for the Elementary with classroom winners going on to compete in Chapel.  I had put off working on Haylee’s poem with her because I knew she would not be too thrilled with having to get up in front of a large crowd and recite it!  I had forgotten though that the poem would be counted for a grade, whoops!

So that put us kind of at the last minute starting to work on it, and she told me right away, I don’t WANT to say this in Chapel!  I let her know that she needed to say it for a grade so she should just worry about that part only.  I was shocked at how quickly she picked it up, and was ready to say it. That just goes to show you what a kid can pick up.

Well, as it turned out, she was the Winner for her class!  Ahhh!  She made sure to tell her teacher that she didn’t want to do it, but after some negotiating and informing by her mean mommy… she “agreed” to do it.  We worked on expression and pausing and motions, and she was ready to go!

That morning, Daddy came to see her, as well as MawMaw and PawPaw!  She was soooooooo nervous… tripped on the steps up there, (What moronic mother dressed her in such a loooong dress? I mean, duh!) forgot to say her name, and did not do ONE motion, BUT… she made it all the way through with no mistakes, freezes, or stumbles.  I breathed a big sigh of relief that she didn’t stand up there and freeze after I had “forced” her into this!  :)

We are so proud of Haylee! She placed 2nd out of the three 1st grade winners!
