Oh boy, oh boy!

Now for the nitty gritty details…

I met Mom and B at the doctor’s office for my 4:00 appointment, and they kept Haylee with them until the actual ultrasound. It seems like I usually have to wait forever, but, of course, this time I was called back and checked and sitting outside the u/s room around 4:05! So I anxiously called Chris even though my doctor’s office likes to post threatening signs warning that no cell phones are to be on! He told me that he was at exit 25… and he needs to get to exit 20 plus another 5+ minutes off the exit. AND… he has a moral problem with speeding! :)

So, I ended up getting called back before he got there, of course, and I had to go to the waiting room to get Haylee. I made sure to deliberately walk slowly to give myself a bit more time for Chris to make it for the big moment!

I let the u/s tech know that he was on his way, and she very nicely said that she would do all the diagnostic stuff first and save the fun stuff for last.

It was a different experience having Haylee in there with me… She definitely enjoyed herself, but really was pretty much interested in one thing and one thing only…. the moment of truth. Is it a boy or girl? I’m sure the grainy, confusing picture of what we called the “baby” weren’t as captivating to her as they were to us…. well, to me, at least. I know Chris definitely struggles to make sense of them. :)

When Chris finally arrived about 4:15 or so, I could breathe a sigh of relief, and soon after Haylee asked when we were going to find out what the baby was! The tech told her she hadn’t looked for that yet because she was waiting on Daddy!

That didn’t stop my impatient Haylee from then asking what was taking so long! I tried to tell her that this was fun! Little did she know that Mommy was relishing every moment.
Soon, the tech pointed with her arrow and asked us if we saw “that.” I had to say no because still now even upon further examination I am unable to make heads or tails of it.

Well, she then typed out “It’s a boy” for us! We were so excited! I am so overjoyed to be able to provide my caveman spouse with his boy to carry on his seed. ;) Not that he actually made me feel that way, but I think the pressure was just innately in me somewhere. After all, there are only a few Cauthen boys with the duty to carry on the family name… So I didn’t want to be one that dropped the ball, you know!

Anyway, so now the pressure’s off! :)

Haylee was excited to be able to reveal the big news to Grandma and Aunt B in the waiting room. The tech actually typed out “Haylee’s brother” on one of the pics which was really special, I thought…. I don’t have a scanner so can’t share it yet, but maybe soon!

I’m 19 weeks today, and I’ve gained 1 lb since my last appt and 3 lbs in all… Almost halfway there!
