Where were you 9-11-01?

I posted this on myspace last year, but I thought it worth reposting….

Where were you 9-11-01?

I was working at GMAC in a large office. I heard someone several desks over saying his mom just called to tell him that a plane had hit the WTC. I just assumed it was a small private plane simply victim to an accidental hit. Then later, when the second one hit and everyone was crowding into the cafeteria to watch it on tv, the realization hit that there was no way this was an accident.

I think, soon after the Pentagon was hit, the power went off on our floor. We were on the 5th floor of a 13 story building in South Charlotte. If you remember at that point, you begin to wonder what’s next? How many other places will be hit? I know Charlotte is not a big target area, but when 3 planes have gone down and your power goes out, it gets a bit freaky. Well, somehow they rigged up a tv in a conference room with an antenna and once again, we all crowed together to watch the chilling sights.

Thankfully, Chris also worked there with me,and we were able to draw some comfort in being together. I know watching all the events play out made you just want to connect with your loved ones to give you some peace in your heart, even if they were no where near any of the sites. I think it was soon after the tower/s fell, they decided to just send everyone home for the day. I’ll never forget our amazement as we continued to watch the coverage that continued 24 hours a day for weeks. We had never seen anything like it. My heart goes out to all those who suffered a loss that day. Here’s a video of some 9-11 pics to help us to never forget what happened that day.

Comment if you care to and tell me where you were…

That sounded as if I had typed it myself working there. I can remember it so clearly.. I forgot you were there with me too. My gut hurt when our power went out. Newly engaged to Wes at the time I was like my life is over so fast here it goes. I got really upset and was sick from it.. Charlotte was in the hospital after having Hailey and Hailey was in ICU. Another bad thing on top of it all to be trapped in a huge hospital. What a day..

I was a senior in high school at the time, in my government class. We had a tv in there and we watched the second planes hit too. It was surreal. I remember thinking how many of my guy friends were 18 and would need to be drafted if it came to that. All these years later, I married a military man, going to be a part of all that stems from 9/11. AND ironically he was deployed on 9/11, it’s all so crazy!

I was at Winthrop in class and I had a break between class and the lab and I was in the car and Albert called my cell phone and told me what was going on. So a friend and I went and crowded a round a tv and it took awhile to find a tv but we just sat around and couldnt believe what was happening. I didnt really want to go to the lab but figured the professor would let us out early. Yeah right he made us stay the whole time. I was ticked. Albert sat at home and watched it the whole day and he never left for work. I had to leave school and go to the YMCA to work b/c they didnt close early either. So on such a crappy day I had class and had to work. We had only been married for 4 months and let me to you it hurt us bad when this happened. With Albert being self employeed people didnt need their grass cut and construction slowed down. I was a full time student only working part time and things got tight but we made it and we have those memories to look back at. Thanks for letting me share.

I was working at a bank in Greenville, SC. One of our co-worker’s husbands called to tell her a plane had just hit the WTC. None of us really believed him – thought it was just a small freak accident. Two of us called our spouses to see if they’d heard anything. Matt was actually home that day… he turned on the TV and saw it all too. He told me all about it on the phone. We found a radio and listened to reports coming in throughout the day. All day long, it was all anyone could talk about. My lunch break was spent at home with Matt – both of us glued to the TV. I’ll never forget the first time I saw the footage of the accidents. Being far away from family, we both had the sudden need to call them and just talk. It was a day I’ll never forget. A day that reminds us just how good we have it. -A day that reminds us to tell our loved ones more often just how much they mean to us.

I remember that morning so clearly. I had walked to my early morning pottery class that I was taking in college, where a TV was on up in the corner. As I was “throwing” a ceramic vase (that’s what you call it when you create something on the pottery wheel), I watched the planes hit the towers. It was very surreal, surrounded by calm and creative clay and pottery, and watching such awful things happen on TV.
