Life Changing Event

You know that insurance term they throw around… a “life changing event?” It’s kind of a heavy phrase. You could say our lives have changed in the last few weeks. I am now a working woman again. Working outside the home, that is.

I had my first day of orientation today, whew! I’m going to be teaching Language Arts, History and Bible for 5th grade at Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte. I sent my application and had my first interview before I even knew I was pregnant. I had no inside contact at all at the school. I didn’t even know that they had any openings. I simply sent my resume to them and was shocked when things began to roll into place.

I almost bailed on the second interview, since I figured my chances of getting the job would be slim once they heard of my coming little one. They learned my news and for some reason, they still wanted to hire me!

I know it may seem crazy to everyone for me to pick now to start a new job. I know that some may question the decision to not simply stay at home. Working vs. staying at home is not a fun debate and often brings out the worst in people. Since I know this, when I share my news that I’m working this year, it seems that I get the disapproval.

I feel very strongly that this is where I’m supposed to be. We have sensed God’s leading in the whole process. Without God’s hand, I don’t believe any of this would be happening. Even the grade and subjects I’m teaching are basically what I would hand pick. After I submitted my resume, I started thinking of what grade would be my favorite. You know what grade I decided? You guessed it… fifth grade. :)

Haylee is so excited to be going to school this year. Today was her first day. There was a little girl named Trinity who befriended her this morning and asked her if she wanted to play. So as I made my way out, Trinity held her hand and led her around the room. :) They have a really excellent preschool program, and I’m thrilled to see all she will be learning this year. They even have a Spanish class and a computer class.

She told me this afternoon that Trinity and another little girl, Reilly were fighting over who’s friend she was. She told me she said, “It’s OKAY! I can have TWO friends!” :)

Chris is also having his first day of school today. He’s beginning the master’s program at Montreat College tonight. He goes to classes every Thursday night for four hours. I was soooooo thrilled when he finally finished his bachelor’s so I can’t say I’m looking forward to the next two years of his late nights and homework and projects and presentations, but I am proud of him for his ambition.

So the Cauthen’s go back to school!

Wow! I’m glad things are going well as you all start this new school year. =) I know Haylee will do great and be the “social queen” of preschool. Let her know I didn’t forget her and saved her a piece of birthday cake. I may summon her soon to watch Full House too! =)

SO GOOD to hear from you again – know you’ve been VERY busy. Glad to hear things are going well. I will definitely be PRAYING for you as you all make this big transition. Kudos to Chris for his drive and ambition. Sounds like Haylee is going to do just fine in preschool… WOW. Is it weird to think of her being in school? ;)

Yay! An update! I can’t believe that she is going to school! I know that she will do so good and as Heather said, “Social Queen” barely does it justice! Glad that everything went so well.

Eli did pretty good with everything today and only has a 99.0 tempature, so not too bad considering. :)

Congratulations to everybody! You’re going to be a fantastic teacher for that school, and I’m sure they’ll feel so lucky to have you. *Sigh* I think I’ll cry buckets when Peter goes off to school (of course, I’m planning to homeschool him through his Masters Degree . . .)
